2021 welcomes the Year of the Ox.

Origin –

The story originates that a race was organised by the Jade Emperor – one of the most superior gods in traditional Chinese religion – he invited all the animals in the world to participate in the race.

Twelve species arrived at the start line: a dog, monkey, tiger, sheep (or goat), horse, dragon, snake, pig, rat, rabbit, rooster and ox. The Emperor named a year in the zodiac after each one as a reward for turning up, the outcome of the race would then determine the order each animal would be placed. The route included a large river which each creature, large or small, must cross. The rat used its cunning to cross the water by convincing the kindly ox to let it sit on the ox as it crossed the water. Rather than thanking the ox on the other side, the rat bolted for the finish with the ox coming second.

Following the Ox came the Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep (or Goat), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig coming last.
